I'm very happy for the teams of these three feature films that made it into the official selection for main competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and congratulations for the awards they picked up.
I'm very grateful to be a part of the teams of:
"La Petite Dernière" by Hafsia Herzi, cinematography by Jérémie Attard, graded at Farbkult in Cologne, awarded with the prize for Best Actress for Nadia Melliti
"The Secret Agent" by Kleber Mendonca Filho who won the award for Best Director, with Wagner Moura awarded as Best Actor, cinematography by Evgenia Alexandrova, graded at Rotor Film in Potsdam-Babelsberg,
"Romería" by Carla Simon, cinematography by Hélène Louvart, graded at The Post Republic
2025-02
Congratulations to these four teams of feature films and a documentary that will premiere at the 75th International Film Festival Berlin:

"Paternal Leave", feature, director Alissa Jung, DP Carolina Steinbrecher, (Generation 14plus)
I graded the first three projects and assisted my friend and colleague Edmond Laccon on the grading of "Paternal Leave" for a few days. I'm very happy for all of you and wish you a wonderful premiere.

BVK/CSI Seminar at EnergaCAMERIMAGE
"Mythbusting: Colour, Camera, Cinema"
with Dr. Charles Poynton and Professor Andrew Stockman.
Here is a link to the recording of the complete seminar and a separate link to the busting of myth #6 "I'm not working because female DPs get all the jobs nowadays".

"Applied Colour Science for Film Production"
The 1-day workshop with colour science luminaires Dr. Charles Poynton (Toronto) and Laurens Orij (Amsterdam) was a huge success. I had the pleasure to welcome both long-time friends and colleagues for an enlightening session at the ifs International Filmschool Cologne to an audience of app. 50 students and professionals.
2024-08
Two feature films I graded premiered at the Film Festival Locarno in August.
"The Sparrow in the Chimney (Der Spatz im Kamin)" directed by Ramon Zürcher, produced by Silvan Zürcher and shot by Alexander Hasskerl.
And "Death Will Come (La Mort Viendra)" directed by Christoph Hochhäusler, produced by Bettina Brokemper and shot by Reinhold Vorschneider.
And after a wonderful team premiere beginning of August, "Cuckoo" now hit the cinema screens in the USA and Germany.
2024-07
Euro Cine Expo was an interesting and successful trade show, but for me mostly a symposium with many lectures and presentations from colleagues and collaborators. I presented a session on HDR and its current status in the business. You'll find the PDF of my presentation here and a session recording here.
2024-04

Congratulations to the teams of "Motel Destino" (director Karim Ainouz, DP Hélène Louvart) and "September Says" (director Ariane Labed, DP Balthazar Lab) for the selection to the official Cannes Festival programme.
Ariane Labed premiered with her feature length debut as director in "Un Certain Regard", while Cannes veterans Karim Ainouz und Hélène Louvart presented their most recent collaboration in the official competition for the Palme d'Or. We finished the grading for the 16mm shot drama "Motel Destino" at The Post Republic in Berlin. While the 16 and 35mm shot "September Says" has been graded at WeFadeToGrey in Cologne.
Besides these two projects I'm also very happy and slightly proud to have contributed to Guy Maddin's latest work "Rumours" shot by Stefan Ciupek, which also premiered at Cannes "out of competition".
I remotely developed a show LUT for production last fall that came to please the directors and DP so much, that it was used in final grading by Picture Shop in Toronto.
2024-02
Sarvnaz Alambeigi's documentary "Maydegol" received a special mention from the jury of Berlinale's Generation 14plus section.
Also "Ivo" by Eva Trobisch and shot by cinematographer Adrian Campean premiered at the Berlin International Filmfestival in the Encounters section and received the Heiner Carow Prize for Best German young film.
The third film that I graded and was shown in Berlin is Tilman Singer's horror movie "Cuckoo" that premiered as a Berlinale Special Gala.
2023-11
At EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2023 I had the great pleasure of hosting a seminar for the BVK and CSI with headline speakers Steve Yedlin ASC and Ari Wegner ACS ASC.
The topic of "Look Management: From Prep to Post" is obviously very close to my heart and Steve Yedlin has done a great job educating cinematographers with his 2015 "Display Preparation Demo" and the following "Resolution Demo" in 2016.
So I'm really honoured that he agreed to join our session remotely from LA, as well as Ari Wegner live from Australia and Pascale Marin AFC on stage.
The seminar took place in the CKK Jordanki Seminar Room on Tuesday, 14th November 2023.
A recording of the session can be viewed here. And a summary of the session has been published on Cinematography World.

After Tim Kuhn BVK already won the German Cameraprize 2023 and the German TV Award for his cinematography on the Amazon Prime series "LUDEN - Könige der Reeperbahn" - ("The Pimp - No F***ing Fairytale"), I'm extremely happy and grateful to receive the FilmLight Colour Award 2023 for my grading of the series.
To be among fellow nominees like Marina Starke, Jerome Cloutier, Steven Bodner and Walter Volpatto already felt very rewarding. But being selected as the winner, by an international jury of 23 world wide renown cinematographers, colorists and experts like Lawrence Sher, Greig Fraser, Natasha Braier, Michael Hatzer, Dave Hussey, Ana Escorse feels still a bit unbelievable.
A big thank you to the jury for their time and effort and FilmLight for creating this award and supporting the recognition of our work.
The story of the limited mini series revolves around the infamous "Nutella Bande", based on true events in St. Pauli of the early 1980s.
It was my first collaboration with cinematographer Tim Kuhn, but an extremely creative, gratifying and rewarding process.

2023-05
Congratulations to the whole team of "Goodbye Julia" by Sudanese director Mohamed Kordofani.
A very successful premiere at the Cannes International Filmfestival was topped by receiving the "Freedom Prize" in the second most prestigious section "Un Certain Regard".
My regards to the German Co-Producer Michael Henrichs who got me involved in the project from pre-production stage on. South African DP Pierre de Villiers shot the feature-length debut of director Kordofani end of 2022. The invitation to Cannes meant a tight schedule for the international team from Sudan, Egypt, France and Germany involved in sound and picture post-production.
But the success made up for all the efforts.
